European Commission Accuses Google of Violating Antitrust Regulations With Android

The European Commission has informed Google of its preliminary view that the company is in breach of EU antitrust rules, abused its dominant position by imposing restrictions on Android device manufacturers and mobile network operators. The Commission’s preliminary view is that Google has implemented a strategy on mobile devices to preserve and strengthen its dominance in general internet search. First, the practices mean that Google Search is pre-installed and set as the default, or exclusive, search service on most Android devices sold in Europe. Second, the practices appear to close off ways for rival search engines to access the market, via competing mobile browsers and operating systems. In addition, they also seem to harm consumers by stifling competition and restricting innovation in the wider mobile space. The Commission’s concerns were outlined in a Statement of Objections addressed to Google and its parent company, Alphabet. This is Google’s Version of ‘3D Touch’ for Android [Video]

Google has confirmed that the new launcher shortcut features in Android N will work with pressure sensitive displays, reports Mashable. Similar to 3D Touch the launcher shortcuts let you access quick actions from the icons on your home screen. Phandroid was able to get the feature working using a swipe down action instead of a deep press for demonstration purposes.Though Phandroid’s example relies on specific gestures — like a swipe down — to activate the shortcuts, the feature will also work with pressure sensitive displays, Google confirmed to Mashable. This means developers will be able to use the feature to create experiences for pressure sensitive handsets like the Huawei Mate S and ZTE Axon mini that can also work on other devices.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple Hires Former Tesla Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Chris Porritt

Apple has hired Christ Porritt, former Tesla VP of Vehicle Engineering and former Aston Martin Chief Engineer, to work on ‘special projects’, reports Electrek. Special projects is where Apple’s rumored electric car is said to be under development. The news comes following a report earlier this year that Apple Car Project Leader Steve Zadesky was leaving the company. If Zadesky indeed left the company, it would make newly hired Porritt Apple’s most senior “car guy” and a likely candidate to lead the Cupertino company’s electric car initiative. While his expertise could be useful in plenty of hardware engineering roles, he had a focus on vehicle dynamics, vehicle architecture and vehicle packaging throughout his long career.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here
