Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - T-Mobile Abolishes Overage Penalties for All Customers

T-Mobile has announced that it is abolishing overages for all customers on T-Mobile consumer plans. The company notes that over 20 million Americans had to pay overage charges last year, amounting to over $1 billion in charges paid to the top three carriers.
“Today I’m laying down a challenge to AT&T, Verizon and Sprint to join T-Mobile in ending these outrageous overage penalties for all consumers – because it’s the right thing to do,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “Overage fees are flat out wrong. Agree with me? Join me in putting this challenge to all the major national carriers by signing my petition on Change.org. Right here. Take one minute to be a part of this consumer movement.”
Starting in May for bills arriving in June, T-Mobile will abolish overage charges regardless of the consumer plan you’re on.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Newly Leaked iPhone 6 Mold Reveals 4.7-Inch Display? [Photo]

A newly leaked mold from inside Foxconn may reveal that the iPhone 6 will have a 4.7-inch display. The mold was posted by Nowherelese and follows several schematic and mold leaks from yesterday.
I still believe that the parts to be produced using the mold will not be molded directly into it. Some of the holes that were drilled into the block in fact serve to fix the inserts which will form a crude which is then machined housing (finishes) using a CNC milling machine. Thus, and assuming that my theory is correct, the dimensions of the box will be determined by the widest part and not the bottom of the mold.
The site superimposed an iPhone 5s to fit the mold and measured the new screen size at exactly 4.7-inches. This is exactly the size widely rumored for the next generation device.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Apple Considers Raising Price of iPhone By $100

Apple has reportedly been negotiating a possible $100 price increase for the iPhone 6 with carriers, according to Jefferies analyst Peter Misek.
Initial response from carriers has been “no”; however, Misek says carriers realize that there is no other game-changing device this year and Apple may be able to negotiate a lesser increase. A $50 bump in price would offset the gross margin impact of the new device.
“The possibility may at first seem far-fetched in light of investor concerns regarding possible carrier subsidy and handset price cuts due to smartphone saturation and lack of differentiation,” Misek comments. “But we think this general lack of differentiation could be the reason why Apple may be able to get a price increase. Carriers realize that the iPhone 6 will likely be the only headline-worthy high-end phone launched this year and that they will lose subs if they do not offer it.”

Apple has reportedly acquired a Hydroelectric Project close to its Prineville, Oregon data center, according to OregonLive.
The Bulletin newspaper in Bend first reported Apple’s interest in the 45-Mile Hydroelectric Project, which is near Haystack Reservoir, about 20 miles northwest of Prineville. It’s in a Jefferson County irrigation canal, screened from fish runs. The project’s previous owner, EBD Hydro, won $7 million in federal loan guarantees and a $1.5 million federal grant to help finance its construction. The company had planned to start work late in 2011; it’s not clear if the facility is operating yet — Apple declined comment, and EBD did not immediately responded to inquiries on the deal.
According to previous proposals, the project would generate 3 to 5 megawatts, enough to generate 2,000 to 3,500 homes. However, OreganLive notes that the project will need to go offline during the winter months when the irrigation canal is closed.

- Analyst Details Specs for the iPhone 6, Says Apple Could Move Sleep/Wake Button to Side

In his Apple roadmap research note, KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo details specifications for the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 and reveals that Apple may move the sleep/wake button to facilitate one-handed operation on the larger devices.
Kuo says that Apple will first release the 4.7-inch model featuring a 1334×750 326ppi display. That’s the same aspect ratio as the current iPhone 5s. The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will get a 1920×1080 screen at 401ppi, also the same aspect ratio.
The iPhone 6 is predicted to have a new A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, a bezel that is 10 to 20% narrower, a thickness of 6.5-7.0mm (iPhone 5s is 7.6mm thick), and a NFC chip. The camera will remain 8MP with a f2.2 aperture; however, optical image stabilization will improve image quality without increasing pixel count.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Apple to Release Plethora of New Products in Q3 Including iWatch in Two Sizes, 4.7-inch iPhone, More?

KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple is set to release a plethora of new products in Q3 including revamped iPad Air and iPad mini tablets, the much anticipated iWatch in two sizes, a new 4.7-inch iPhone 6, an upgraded Apple TV, an all-new 12-inch MacBook and updates to the MacBook Pro lineup! Apple is also said to be updating the iMac in Q2 and releasing a larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 before the holidays.
“We believe the rumored iWatch will be Apple’s most important product this year, carrying much more weight than iPhone 6,” Kuo writes, adding, “as market feedback for the product should reveal whether Apple still has the ability to continue making game-changing products with Tim Cook at the helm.”
Kuo believes that Apple’s competition in the sector could be fashion brands rather than tech companies if the iWatch is successful. Kuo also said Apple’s success hinges on five key factors: replacement demand from larger iPhones; whether the new iPads’ minor upgrades will carry momentum in 2014; whether the all-new 12-inch MacBook Air will redefine the notebook user experience; how much low-price iMac can boost overall shipments; and App Store availability on Apple TV.

T-Mobile has announced the first of three new initiatives, a Simple Starter value plan that offers unlimited talk and text and up to 500MB 4G LTE data and tethering for $40 a month. The plan launches on April 12th and is directed to value-conscious wireless customers, promising absolutely no data overages.
“Un-carrier is a movement, not a marketing strategy. We are freeing consumers from the predatory practices of traditional US wireless companies and that includes these plans that start with a low price and a low data limit, but then hit you with insane fees if you send one too many emails,” said John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “It’s wrong! And I personally want to drive those ridiculous schemes out of this industry. We will continue to be relentless and bring this forced march of change to the market every day so consumers can be creative with and enjoy the true benefits of wireless. WTFJeans says it also improved the little details like choosing an original design with orange thread and a wild stitching pattern for the internal parts of the jeans, matching orange print, using a different colored thread on the outside of the jeans, and even making a custom branded set of buttons, with a wide concave top button to make it even easier to grab and put your jeans on, and to take them off quickly.

An email that surfaced in the latest Apple vs. Samsung trial reveals that Apple was considering adding apps, a browser, and a magic wand to the Apple TV 2.
The Verge obtained the 2010 email from Steve Jobs that went over topics for a secret Top 100 meeting where Apple discussed strategies for the upcoming year with its top employees.
“Where do we go from here?” says one of the bullet points, followed by “apps, browser” and “magic wand?” as possible options. However, those suggestions could be just be riffing. In testimony in a San Jose court earlier today, marketing chief Phil Schiller noted that items from this email were just an outline, and not necessarily set in stone for the confab. That includes mention of 2011 being the “holy war with Google.” In this case, the Apple TV 2 presentation is described as an opportunity to discuss the the company’s plans to “stay in the living room game and make a great ‘must have’ accessory for iOS devices.”

Pegatron, the manufacturer of the Apple iPhone 5c and iPad mini, posted a 22% jump in earnings today, reports the WSJ. The increase is attributed to the company’s growing role as a supplier for Apple.
Apple has increasingly sought out production partners beyond its primary manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., also known as Foxconn, in an effort to secure production capacity for an expanding range of products. Apple is in talks with Comcast about a streaming television service, reports the WSJ. The service would use the Apple TV set-top box and get priority service on Comcast’s network to bypass net congestion, according to sources.
The discussions between the world’s most valuable company and the nation’s largest cable provider are still in early stages and many hurdles remain. But the deal, if sealed, would mark a new level of cooperation and integration between a technology company and a cable provider to modernize TV viewing. Apple’s intention is to allow users to stream live and on-demand TV programming and digital-video recordings stored in the “cloud,” effectively taking the place of a traditional cable set-top box.
Apple has been pursing various avenues to enter TV; however, media companies and cable companies are hesitant to let Apple into their market. The company is not yet close to an agreement with Comcast who would need to make major network investments to meet Apple’s desired service quality.

Apple’s iPhone 5c which has been described as a ‘flop’ outsold BlackBerry Windows Phone, and every Android flagship device in Q4, 2013, notes AppleInsider.
Data from multiple sources, compiled by Seeking Alpha’s J. M. Manness, indicates that in the winter quarter Apple sold 31.9 million iPhone 5s units, 12.8 million iPhone 5c units, and 6.4 million iPhone 4S units. That is a ratio of about 2.5:1 for iPhone 5s:iPhone 5c sales. Clearly the iPhone 5s is the preferred device; however, lets compare that to the competition.
The iPhone 5c over doubled BlackBerry’s total smartphone sales of 6 million for the quarter. It easily beat sales of 8.2 million Nokia Windows Phone devices which account for a nearly all Windows Phone sales globally.

Apple is considering the release of an iTunes Store app for Android and the launch of a subscription based music streaming service, according to Billboard.
Apple has opened exploratory talks with senior label executives about the possibility of launching an on-demand streaming service that would rival Spotify and Beats Music, according to three people familiar with the talks. Apple is also thinking about adding an iTunes App for Android phones, the Google rival that has been growing faster than the iPhone, these sources said. The surprising discussions are part of a multi-pronged strategy to deal with the double-digit decline in U.S. download sales at Apple’s iTunes Music Store, the largest music retailer.
According to the report, Apple is now contemplating these options because U.S. digital album sales have started to drop. Album sales are down 13% for the week ended March 9 and track sales are down 11%.

- Amazon to Release Smartphone With 6 Cameras?

Amazon is set to release its first smartphone that will feature 6 cameras within the next 3-6 months, reports Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at KGI Securities. Kuo is known for his impressive track record in predicting Apple news.
“We predict Amazon (US) will launch its own brand smartphone in 3-6 months, using the same hardware strategy as used for its e-reader and tablet,” Kuo wrote on Thursday in a note to clients obtained by BGR. “The supply chain will start stocking up materials in 2Q14 for production. We estimate required components will amount to 700k-1.2mn units, and assembly to 300-600k units. Related suppliers will start to see benefits in 2Q14.”
Kuo says the smartphone will feature six cameras, including one rear camera, one front camera, and four cameras that will be used for gesture controls. BGR says it was able to confirm this claim with its own sources.

China Mobile added about one million new iPhone users last month following the launch of the smartphone on its network in mid-January, reports the WSJ. China Mobile just reported its first annual decline in earnings in over ten years due to stiff competition.
Both China Mobile and Apple Inc. have high hopes for their partnership. The dominant Chinese carrier, which launched speedier fourth-generation mobile services in late December, is betting on 4G iPhones to attract new customers as competition intensifies. For Apple, the stakes are high in China. The country is the world’s largest smartphone market by shipments and the deal with China Mobile gives it access to an additional 776 million subscribers and new sale points.
“We added 1.34 million new 4G users in February and most of them are iPhone users. We are happy with the progress as we are still building our 4G network and the coverage is only available in some major cities,” China Mobile Chairman Xi Gouhua told The Wall Street Journal.

An EA Games server has been hacked to host a phishing site which targets users with an Apple ID, reports Netcraft.
Two websites in the EA.com domain used the compromised server which ordinarily hosts a calendar based on WebCalendar 1.2.0. It’s believed that hackers utilized a vulnerability in the outdated version of WebCalendar to modify settings and execute arbitrary code. The phishing content was spotted in the same directory as the WebCalendar application.
The phishing site attempts to trick a victim into submitting his Apple ID and password. It then presents a second form which asks the victim to verify his full name, card number, expiration date, verification code, date of birth, phone number, mother’s maiden name, plus other details that would be useful to a fraudster. After submitting these details, the victim is redirected to the legitimate Apple ID website at https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

“Even though the source of the images is absolutely uncertain, I have confirmed with several sources that these shots are legitimate,” said Mark Gurman.
Apple is said to be working on Preview and TextEdit applications for iOS that will make it easy to view files stored in iCloud. The apps apparently aren’t designed for editing files. They’re early in development but could be ready to ship with iOS 8.

Rovio is set to launch Angry Birds Epic, an adventure role-playing game with turn-based combat and an extensive crafting system, reports Kotaku.
It actually sounds pretty amazing for a mobile title. A story-driven campaign with a challenging endgame? Will there be raiding? Can birds raid things? Alfred Hitchcock certainly thought so. Sounds like crafting will be an important part of the game as well, with players making armor, potions, and weapons using resources either won in the game or purchased via real currency.
Angry Birds Epic is set to soft launch in Canada and Australia this week. Later this year the finished game will launch in the rest of the world.

The store which is located at the corner of Stockton and Post on Union Square was initially drew complaints because it was set to destroy a historic fountain. As a result, Apple modified its design to relocate the fountain. It also added an 8-foot wide glass window that will be notched into the side wall from the ground to the roof. The most recent renders revealed two massive glass sliding doors over 44 feet tall and 23 feet wide

Skydrop is a sprinkler controller that adjusts watering needs based on current local weather conditions and can be managed via an iOS app.
Skydrop uses your internet connection to make landscape watering simpler and more efficient — saving you water, time and money. Simply replace an existing controller, or install it new, and wire it up using nothing more than your fingers. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Realistic Concept for a 4.7-Inch iPhone Air [Video]

Sam Beckett has posted a realistic concept video for a 4.7-inch iPhone Air.
The phone is only 8% larger than the existing iPhone 5S, this increase is to accommodate the larger screen. Some extra space could be potentially utilised by reducing the width of the side bezels and by also slimming down the top and bottom of the phone frame too. The depth of the iPhone Air is 7mm, coming in 0.6mm smaller than it’s predecessor. This modest reduction in the device depth and larger increase in the width and height could help create a bigger space for the battery and other components.
The 4.7-inch screen would have a 1920×1080 resolution resulting in a pixel density of 468ppi. It uses sapphire crystal cover glass instead of Gorilla Glass for added strength and durability. Other features include an upgraded 10MP f/1.8 camera and an A8 chip.
