  • Corning's New Gorilla Glass 4 Resists Screen Breakage From Everyday Drops [Video]

Corning today announced Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is up to two times tougher than any competitive cover glass design now in the market. The new Gorilla Glass 4 has been formulated to address consumers’ number one issue – screen breakage from everyday drops.

Gorilla Glass 4 provides at least two times improved damage resistance over competitive aluminosilicate glass, as measured by retained strength after damage events, resulting in improved mechanical durability of the glass to in-field damage events, such as drops.

Apple uses Gorilla Glass in its mobile devices. It had planned a shift to sapphire glass; however, due to the spectacular failure of its partnership with GT, its next generation devices may be equipped with Gorilla Glass 4 display covers.

  • Apple Plans to Bundle Beats Music with iOS Early Next Year

Apple will reportedly bundle Beats Music, the streaming service, with iOS early next year, according to the Financial Times.

Apple will bundle the subscription music service it acquired from Beats into its iOS operating system early next year, instantly making it available on hundreds of millions of iPhones and iPads – and ramping up pressure on Spotify, the market leader in music streaming.

The inclusion of the paid-for Beats service in an iOS software update could happen as early as March, according to people familiar with the situation. The move represents Apple’s first attempt to capitalise on Beats since it bought the headphone maker and streaming service from Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine for $3bn this year.

  • Apple Tweaks App Store Buttons to Say 'Get' Instead of 'Free'

Apple has tweaked its App Store buttons replacing the ‘Free’ button previously used to download apps for no charge with a new button that reads ‘Get’.

It’s not exactly clear why Apple decided to change the wording of its buttons; however, it likely has to do with the controversy over in-app purchases.

Back in July, The European Commission issued a statement criticizing Apple for taking ‘no concrete and immediate solutions’ to address concerns with in-app purchases, in particular inadvertent purchases by children.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Beat Apple iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 in Color Accuracy

DisplayMate has tested six of the best quality mobile to displays for color accuracy and determined that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 outperform the Apple iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Air 2.

We have taken the six best mobile displays from our Display Technology Shoot-Out article series over the last year and performed an in-depth analysis of their Color Accuracy. Since we only test the best performing displays to begin with, they were already known to be fairly good. There are none-the-less significant differences between them. With color variations of up to 10 JNCD between the displays shown in Figure 3, it was fairly easy to see some significant visual differences between all of the displays. So, while we learned which ones are the Best of the Best, there is still plenty of room for future improvement

    The Results:
    1. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the winner in Absolute Color Accuracy, coming in first place in all categories for its Basic Screen Mode setting.

  • Analyst: iPad Sales to Drop Drastically in Q1 2015, iPad Pro Production to Be Delayed Until Q2 2015

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that iPad sales will drop drastically in Q1 2015 and that production of the rumored iPad Pro won’t start until Q2 2015.

“We forecast iPad shipments will fall 54.5% QoQ to 9.8mn units in 1Q15, given a lack of new applications, tablet market saturation and slow season.”

“We believe that, in a major shift, while Apple (US) used to be able to use new form factor designs to boost demand, it has failed to do so this time around. The lighter and thinner iPad Air 2 will face strong headwinds in increasing sales in 1Q15, we believe; we also hold that this means that iPad, along with the entire tablet market, is faced with structural challenges characterized by a lack of new applications and market saturation. We don’t think these challenges will be easily overcome by upgraded specs, new form factor designs or lower prices.”

Apple has announced that due to a security issue with SSL 3.0, it will disable SSL 3.0 support on the Apple Push Notification Service on October 29th.

The Apple Push Notification service will be updated and changes to your servers may be required to remain compatible.

In order to protect our users against a recently discovered security issue with SSL version 3.0 the Apple Push Notification server will remove support for SSL 3.0 on Wednesday, October 29. Providers using only SSL 3.0 will need to support TLS as soon as possible to ensure the Apple Push Notification service continues to perform as expected. • iPad Air 2 Teardown Reveals A8X Processor, 2GB of RAM, Smaller Battery [Photos]

iFixit has posted a teardown of the new iPad Air 2.

What’s lighter than Air? An Air 2. Join us live as we disassemble the new, shaved-down iPad Air 2, and see whether Apple’s thinnest device is still its least-repairable.

    Highlights:
    ? Fully laminated, 9.7″ IPS Multi-Touch LCD with a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution at 264 ppi and antireflective coating
? A8X 64-bit CPU (rumored to be a triple-core, 1.5 GHz SoC) paired with 2 GB RAM and M8 motion coprocessor
    ? iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi is model number A1566.
? The iPad Air 2 is thinner than the original iPad Air and the iPhone 6, and it doesn’t have a camera bump.
? Dual mic moves closer to iSight camera, mute switch is gone.
? The glued-down display remains the iPad’s only access point, so there’s still a risk of damaging it even when performing ordinary repairs.
? Wi-Fi model’s antennas are now at the top of the iPad
? Replacing Lightning connect requires replacing the entire logic board.
? 27.62 Wh battery down from the previous Air’s 32.9 Wh capacity.

  • Saurik Releases iOS 8 Version of Cydia for Manual Download

Saurik has released an iOS 8 compatible version of Cydia for manual download following the release of an untethered Pangu jailbreak for iOS 8 – iOS 8.1.

I’ve given a new version of Cydia Installer in the form of a standard jailbreak bootstrap for inclusion in a new version of their jailbreak. I’ve also pushed the .deb of the iOS 8 version of Cydia to apt.saurik.com for manual download, but not yet to my repository. A lot of thanks goes out to limneos, who tested the new build for me, as I was at an airport (and now am frantically typing this message while they figure out how to retract the jetbridge from the plane I’m on that is about to take off).

The Pangu8 jailbreak was released for Windows only, without a compatible version of Cydia. You can download the jailbreak from here.

  • Some Bank of America Customers Are Getting Double Charged When Using Apple Pay [Video]

CNN Money is reporting that some Bank of America customers are getting double charged when using Apple Pay.

I was among the first people to try out Apple Pay the moment it came available on Monday. It was convenient, fast, and it seemingly worked without incident … until I logged in and checked my debit card bill. As it turns out, I’ve been charged twice for every single purchase I’ve made with Apple Pay at various stores.

A search on Twitter reveals that other Bank of America customers are suffering the same problem. “Problems with #ApplePay – it looks like my @bankofamerica account was double charged by @Walgreens”, said Ray Thompson. Other user SBUX75DEVILDOG exclaims, “i got charged twice when I used #ApplePay @WholeFoods @BofA_Help #applepaygate”
