Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Glitch in OS X Spotlight Exposes Private Details to Spammers and Phishers

A glitch in Apple’s OS X Spotlight can potentially expose sensitive details of Apple Mail users, including IP addresses and more to spammers, phishers, and other online tracing companies.
When searching with Spotlight in OS X, Apple indexes emails received with the Apple Mail client; however, when performing the searches, Spotlight shows previews of the emails and automatically loads external images in the HTML email. There is a setting in the Mail application that when switched off, prevents the loading of remote content in messages. Unfortunately, there currently is a glitch with Spotlight that still loads the files even with the setting switch off.
The Spotlight preview loads those files even when users have switched off the “load remote content in messages” option in the Mail app, a feature often disabled to prevent email senders from knowing if an email has arrived and if it has been opened. What’s more, Spotlight also loads those files when it shows previews of unopened emails that landed directly in the junk folder.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - HomeKit Devices to Require Apple TV for Siri Control When You're Away From Home

The slew of HomeKit home automation devices that will soon hit the market require an Apple TV for Siri control when you’re away from home, reports The Verge. The site says the requirement has been confirmed by a source close to HomeKit’s development and two launch partners.
Only the third generation Apple TV running iOS 7.0 or later will have support for HomeKit.
Each new Wi-Fi device also shares one common trait: an Apple TV is required if you want to control them with Siri while away from home. So, while commands like “Siri, turn off the lights in the living room” will always work while connected to your home Wi-Fi network, they won’t from the airport unless you have an Apple TV. But that’s it — you can still switch off the lights with an app, no Apple TV required.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Apple Wins Dismissal of Class Action Lawsuit Over MacBook Logic Boards

A U.S. District Judge in San Francisco dismissed a lawsuit accusing Apple of defrauding consumer by selling MacBooks with defective logic boards, reports Reuters. The plaintiffs claimed that Apple knew it sold defective logic boards that routinely failed in devices that shipped in 2010.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco said the plaintiffs, Uriel Marcus and Benedict Verceles, failed to show that Apple made “affirmative misrepresentations,” despite citing online complaints and Apple marketing statements calling the laptops “state of the art” or the “most advanced” on the market.
“Plaintiffs have failed to allege that Apple’s logic boards were unfit for their ordinary purposes or lacked a minimal level of quality,” Alsup wrote. “Both plaintiffs were able to adequately use their computers for approximately 18 months and two years, respectively.”

Shenzhen-based Hyperdon was selling fake Apple Watches for $27 at CES. The Chinese company’s knockoff Apple Watch is actually called “smart watch,” but at first glance, it looks exactly like Apple’s upcoming product.
The watch’s screen only displays when it’s turned on, and many of its icons are blatant ripoffs of Apple designs. The pairing process took a few tries, but once connected to my iPhone 6, I was able to make phone calls and play music through the watch. It even vibrates when I get a call.
The Smart Watch also feature a pedometer, stopwatch, alarm, and a feature called “Anti-lost,”
which most likely warns the user when they are out of range. The watch charges through USB, and according to a company representative, the battery life is more than 180 hours.
