  • Corning's New Gorilla Glass 4 Resists Screen Breakage From Everyday Drops [Video]

Corning today announced Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is up to two times tougher than any competitive cover glass design now in the market. The new Gorilla Glass 4 has been formulated to address consumers’ number one issue – screen breakage from everyday drops.

Gorilla Glass 4 provides at least two times improved damage resistance over competitive aluminosilicate glass, as measured by retained strength after damage events, resulting in improved mechanical durability of the glass to in-field damage events, such as drops.

Apple uses Gorilla Glass in its mobile devices. It had planned a shift to sapphire glass; however, due to the spectacular failure of its partnership with GT, its next generation devices may be equipped with Gorilla Glass 4 display covers.

  • Untethered iOS 8.1.1 Jailbreak Demonstrated [Video]

iH8Sn0w and XanderKitteh have demonstrated an untethered jailbreak of iOS 8.1.1. The pair posted a video to YouTube which shows an iPad running Cydia and verbose booting with a custom boot logo.

The two hackers have been working on the jailbreak since last Friday. Unfortunately, their current jailbreak only works with 30 pin devices due to no serial over Lightning.

Hopefully, continued progress will be made.

  • Apple Plans to Bundle Beats Music with iOS Early Next Year

Apple will reportedly bundle Beats Music, the streaming service, with iOS early next year, according to the Financial Times.

Apple will bundle the subscription music service it acquired from Beats into its iOS operating system early next year, instantly making it available on hundreds of millions of iPhones and iPads – and ramping up pressure on Spotify, the market leader in music streaming.

The inclusion of the paid-for Beats service in an iOS software update could happen as early as March, according to people familiar with the situation. The move represents Apple’s first attempt to capitalise on Beats since it bought the headphone maker and streaming service from Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine for $3bn this year.

  • Apple Tweaks App Store Buttons to Say 'Get' Instead of 'Free'

Apple has tweaked its App Store buttons replacing the ‘Free’ button previously used to download apps for no charge with a new button that reads ‘Get’.

It’s not exactly clear why Apple decided to change the wording of its buttons; however, it likely has to do with the controversy over in-app purchases.

Back in July, The European Commission issued a statement criticizing Apple for taking ‘no concrete and immediate solutions’ to address concerns with in-app purchases, in particular inadvertent purchases by children.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Beat Apple iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 in Color Accuracy

DisplayMate has tested six of the best quality mobile to displays for color accuracy and determined that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 outperform the Apple iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Air 2.

We have taken the six best mobile displays from our Display Technology Shoot-Out article series over the last year and performed an in-depth analysis of their Color Accuracy. Since we only test the best performing displays to begin with, they were already known to be fairly good. There are none-the-less significant differences between them. With color variations of up to 10 JNCD between the displays shown in Figure 3, it was fairly easy to see some significant visual differences between all of the displays. So, while we learned which ones are the Best of the Best, there is still plenty of room for future improvement

    The Results:
    1. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the winner in Absolute Color Accuracy, coming in first place in all categories for its Basic Screen Mode setting.
