- Starwood Hotels Rolls Out SPG Keyless, Lets Guests Use Their iPhone as a Room Key [Video]
Starwood Hotels has officially announced the roll out of SPG Keyless, a mobile keyless entry system that lets guests use their smartphone as a key.
It’s a mobile office. It’s a virtual wallet. It’s a lifeline. And now, it’s a hotel room key. Today, the smartphone will get a whole lot smarter – especially while on the road. Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), the award-winning loyalty program from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., introduces SPG Keyless, the hospitality industry’s first mobile, keyless entry system allowing guests to use their smartphone as a key. Rolling out to Aloft, Element and W Hotels around the globe, SPG Keyless makes its official debut today in 10 hotels in markets including Beijing, Hong Kong, New York, Los Angeles and Doha.
SPG Keyless, powered by the SPG app, enables guests to bypass the front desk (where available), go directly to their room and unlock their stay with a simple tap of their smartphone. SPG Keyless goes live Wednesday, November 5th at the following hotels: Aloft Beijing, Aloft Cancun, Aloft Cupertino, Aloft Harlem, W Doha, W Hollywood, W Hong Kong, W New York-Downtown, W Singapore and Element Times Square. Starwood will rapidly rollout SPG Keyless with plans for it to be available on 30,000 doors in 150 hotels around the globe by early 2015 across Aloft, Element and W hotels. SPG Keyless is available to SPG members who book a hotel room through one of Starwood’s channels (hotel websites, SPG.com, the SPG app or customer contact centers).

Late last month, Microsoft announced that it was dropping the Nokia name from its smartphones and would soon launch ‘Microsoft Lumia’ smartphones.
Today, Engadget spotted the first Microsoft Lumia phone, the RM-1090, at the FCC.
The dual-SIM handset has popped up at both the FCC and its Chinese equivalent, packing a 5-inch qHD display and 3G-only radios, so it’s clearly a low-budget device. Still, the vertical stripe running down the back is just as we’d expected, although it’s still surprising to see the Microsoft logo beneath the earpiece instead of good ol’ Nokia.

Apple is reportedly considering a new bond sale and is planning a call with investors this afternoon to discuss the matter, reports the WSJ.
Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs Inc. are arranging a call for the firm with investors Monday afternoon in London, and a deal, possibly at least partly in euros, could come as soon as Tuesday, according to a person familiar with the matter. The iPhone maker has never issued debt in currencies other than the dollar before.
Apple’s previous bonds have been massive with small yields for investors. Previous bond sales were $12 billion and $17 billion. It’s $12 billion sale in April paid a yield of 1.068% for three-year money and 4.483% for 30-year cash.

A ‘reliable source’ tells the site that the rather than 12.9-inch screen size previously rumored, the tablet will feature a 12.2-inch LCD.
The thickness of the iPad is apparently designed to be between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Pro’s thickness. That would put it at 7mm, since the iPhone 6 is 6.9mm thick and the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1mm thick.
