  • Apple is Testing an iOS 7.1.2 Update

Apple is working on an iOS 7.1.2 update and hits from devices running the new firmware have been appearing in web logs since last Friday, reports MacRumors.

Activity is still low, but that is typical for the early stages of update testing, particularly minor ones that may not require widespread internal or external testing. As a minor update, iOS 7.1.2 is likely to focus on bug fixes and other tweaks rather than major feature additions, and it likely will not even be put through a developer testing period before release.

Apple has already announced that at least two issues will be resolved in a future software update. The first is a problem which Andreas Kurtz, a security researcher, discovered. Contrary to Apple’s claims email attachments are not being encrypted in iOS 7. The second is an issue that results in messages sent to a number no longer using iOS to be sent as an undeliverable iMessage instead of as a SMS.

  • Apple Says Server Issue Worsened iMessage Problems

Apple has reportedly fixed a server-side issue that worsened iMessage problems experienced by users switching from iPhone to other mobile operating systems.

Users have grown increasingly irate with Apple over a bug that manifests when switching from iOS to another operating system while keeping the same number. Often Apple’s system doesn’t recognize that their number is no longer associated with an iOS device and messages from other iOS users are still sent via iMessage, which can’t be received on their new device. This has resulted in large number of unreceived SMS messages.

A women in California is now seeking class-action status for a lawsuit against Apple, saying that Apple is deprive former customers of the ability to get full value from their wireless service after switching. The suit claims Apple has violated California’s unfair competition law and interfered with carrier’s ability to deliver its promised service.

  • TypeRead Sends a Read Receipt When You Start Typing

TypeRead is a new tweak that lets you send a read receipt when you start typing a message instead of when you open the message.

Have you ever read a message, but weren’t able to reply to the person at that time, and didn’t want them thinking you didn’t want to talk to them? Ever texted someone, and left your phone on the chat, but didn’t want them thinking you were waiting for their text? This tweak fixes all that!

This will only send read receipts when you start typing, so you can respond anytime, worry free! In the messages list, you can tap and hold on the chat, and it will remove the blue indicator! (This does not remove app badge).

  • iTunes Redesign Inspired By iOS [Images]

Brye Michael Kobayashi, a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, has posted his concept for an iTunes redesign inspired by iOS.

“iTunes is one of the most essential applications on OS X”, says Kobayashi. “For many of us, it aggregates all our music, movies, apps and backups for our devices. While over the years updates have added functionality, the overall experience hasn’t really changed.”

Some issues he found with the current version of iOS include:
? Drop down menu to switch libraries is confusing and adds another unnecessary step.
? Narrow rows and small text reduces visibility.
? Disconnect between old and new design style.
? Multiple scrolling lists and small banners overwhelm the experience.
? Home page cluttered with random assortment of media.
? Quick links are mostly pointless and take up valuable x-axis space.
