- What iOS Would Look Like on an iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch Display [Video]

Check out the video below which shows a dummy model iPhone 6 running a simulated version of iOS made for a 4.7-inch display. The video simply takes a 4.7-inch Moto X and places it behind the bezel of an iPhone 6 dummy unit to give us a representation of what iOS would look like.
I was curious to know exactly how iOS would be represented on a 4.7-inch display, so I decided to make an iPhone 6 simulator. This “simulator” takes the 4.7-inch Moto X and places it behind what is rumored to be the bezel for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6. It has been reported that most of the user-interface will be upscaled with the possibility of certain apps being revamped to take advantage of the extra space.
It has been noted that some apps may end up getting their user-interface simply upscaled, while some apps might see some UI tweaks thanks to the larger screen area to work with. It has also been reported that Apple’s next iPhone will feature a resolution of 1704 x 960, giving a 4.7-inch model a PPI of 416, and a 5.5-inch iPhone a 356 PPI.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Apple Selects Innolux as Third Supplier of Displays for the 4.7-Inch iPhone 6?

Apple has selected Innolux as its third supplier of displays for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, reports Taiwan’s Economic Daily News.
It’s believed that Apple has already partnered with LG Display and Japan Display for 4.7-inch panels; however, due to anticipated demand the company searched for a third supplier. Previous reports had Sharp pegged as the third supplier; however, the Economic Daily News says that Innolux Display may be Apple’s choice.
Samsung, Sharp, and Innolux were reportedly in the running. Samsung is said to have been rejected to reduce Apple’s reliance on the company. Sharp’s sample display panels allegedly suffered from ‘moire’ issues and thus Innolux was chosen as the third manufacturer.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Apple and Samsung in Talks to Settle Patent Disputes Outside of Court

Apple and Samsung are reportedly in talks to have all future patent disputes settled outside of court, reports Kim Yoo-chul, a senior Samsung watcher at the Korea Times. This news comes just a few days after Google and Apple agreed to drop all of their lawsuits against each other.
Samsung has recently resumed working-level discussions with Apple and the key issue is how to dismiss all lawsuits, one source said, declining to be named.
In 2012, a jury awarded Apple with more than $1 billion in damages for Samsung’s patent infringements, however that amount was later reduced to $930 million. Just last month a second trial awarded Apple with $120 million, but it had to pay Samsung $158,000 for its own patent infringements.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - I0n1c Explains How His iOS 7.1.1 Jailbreak Works

Stefan Esser, a hacker known as i0n1c, has posted an explanation of how his jailbreak of iOS 7.1.1 works.
The jailbreak, which has not yet been released, is unique in that it uses a kernel bug which is hidden inside functionality that can be easily reached, even from within the iOS application sandbox.
This means that the exploit code can be used to break out of any application that you exploit. This is very different from nearly all of the kernel vulnerabilities used in iOS jailbreaks since iOS 4. There have been only 2 publicly disclosed vulnerabilities that had this power. The first has been used in comex’s JailbreakMe3 and the other one is the posix_spawn() vulnerability disclosed by SektionEins during SyScan 2013 and later used by the jailbreak community in the p0sixpwn jailbreak.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Facebook Working on Snapchat Competitor Called 'Slingshot'?

Facebook is reportedly working on a new app to rival Snapchat. The app is known internally as ‘Slingshot’ and it features a simple and quick user interface for video chat, reports the Financial Times.
The app allows users to send short video messages with just a couple of taps of the screen. Slingshot could be launched this month, one person said, while cautioning that Facebook might still decide not to proceed with launching the product. Slingshot is likely to stand alone from Facebook Messenger, its popular texting app, as part of Mark Zuckerberg’s strategy of unbundling the group’s social network into standalone mobile services.
Work on the app follows Facebook’s failed attempts to purchase Snapchat for $3 billion. The app is very popular with teenagers, a segment which Facebook is reporting falling engagement numbers.

Moments after we reported that Stefan Esser (i0n1c) jailbroke iOS 7.1.1, Winocm posted a video of an iPhone 4 jailbroken on iOS 7.1.1 as well.
Winocm claims the jailbreak is untethered and that it should work on other devices if ‘you put in the effort’
Oh yeah, this is iOS 7.1.1 untethered if you didn’t notice earlier. (iPhone 4 GSM though, don’t want to mess with any other devices that I have. Would work elsewhere… if you put in the effort. ?)

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - iOS 7.1.1 Has Been Jailbroken [Photo]

Security Researcher Stefan Esser, also known as i0n1c, has jailbroken iOS 7.1.1 according to a photo he just tweeted.
The photo shows an iPhone 5c running Cydia 1.1.9 on iOS 7.1.1. While these types of images can easily be faked, Esser has released previous jailbreaks so we assume the photo is legit. He did shed some light on the vulnerability as well:
That iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak is not based on a long vulnerability chain. It uses a single beautiful kernel bug that goes from mobile to kernel.

Heathrow has issued a statement on the Samsung announcement that it is taking over the ‘signage, wayfinding, website and every single digital screen’ in Terminal 5.
“Heathrow Terminal 5’s signage and passenger wayfinding has not changed,” a Heathrow spokesperson told iClarified. “Samsung have rented advertising space in Terminal 5 with a tongue-in-cheek campaign using the line: ‘Terminal Samsung Galaxy 5S’.”
Contrary to the original press release, it appears that Samsung’s ad campaign is more typical in nature and won’t be a rebranding of the airport terminal.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Italy Investigates Apple Over Freemium Apps

Italy’s Antitrust and Competition Authority has launched an investigation into whether Apple, Google, Amazon, and Gameloft mislead users into making purchases in apps that are initially free to download, reports the WSJ.
The move by Italy’s Antitrust and Competition Authority comes after the European Union earlier this year called on companies to reform their use of the “freemium” model in which apps are free to download, but then later require payments that often get charged to credit cards by default. The EU says consumer confusion with the freemium model threatens the long-term health of the continent’s booming “app economy” that employs more than one million people and is forecast to produce €63 billion in total revenue in 2018, more than triple last year’s level.
“Consumers could be led to think, contrary to reality, that a game is completely free and therefore they don’t know ahead of time the game’s true cost,” the regulator said. “It appears also that there is a lack of information regarding how to exclude or limit the possibility of making a purchase inside the app.”
