- Apple Supplier Pegatron Posts 22% Jump in Earnings

Pegatron, the manufacturer of the Apple iPhone 5c and iPad mini, posted a 22% jump in earnings today, reports the WSJ. The increase is attributed to the company’s growing role as a supplier for Apple.
Apple has increasingly sought out production partners beyond its primary manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., also known as Foxconn, in an effort to secure production capacity for an expanding range of products. Taiwan-based Pegatron has been the main beneficiary, but Apple has also begun to work with some other manufacturers, as reported previously in The Wall Street Journal.
At an investor conference on Monday, Pegatron CEO Jason Cheng said, “While PCs will still be around, mobile devices are a faster growing sector, and we want an even balance between the different parts of our business.”

iTunes Store and App Store prices could increase up to 20% in the U.K. due to a new law set to be implemented in this year’s finance bill, reports The Guardian.
Chancellor George Osborne is aiming to close a tax loophole that allowed companies to charge online customers VAT at low foreign rates. At the moment, web firms such as Apple and Amazon are selling digital downloads through countries like Luxembourg, where the tax rate is as low as 3%, instead of paying the U.K.’s 20% rate.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Apple in Talks With Comcast About Streaming Television Service?

Apple is in talks with Comcast about a streaming television service, reports the WSJ. The service would use the Apple TV set-top box and get priority service on Comcast’s network to bypass net congestion, according to sources.
The discussions between the world’s most valuable company and the nation’s largest cable provider are still in early stages and many hurdles remain. But the deal, if sealed, would mark a new level of cooperation and integration between a technology company and a cable provider to modernize TV viewing. Apple’s intention is to allow users to stream live and on-demand TV programming and digital-video recordings stored in the “cloud,” effectively taking the place of a traditional cable set-top box.
Apple has been pursing various avenues to enter TV; however, media companies and cable companies are hesitant to let Apple into their market. The company is not yet close to an agreement with Comcast who would need to make major network investments to meet Apple’s desired service quality.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Newsletter, App Store, YouTube - Apple Considers Release of iTunes Store for Android, Launch of Subscription Based Music Service

Apple is considering the release of an iTunes Store app for Android and the launch of a subscription based music streaming service, according to Billboard.
Apple has opened exploratory talks with senior label executives about the possibility of launching an on-demand streaming service that would rival Spotify and Beats Music, according to three people familiar with the talks. Apple is also thinking about adding an iTunes App for Android phones, the Google rival that has been growing faster than the iPhone, these sources said. The surprising discussions are part of a multi-pronged strategy to deal with the double-digit decline in U.S. download sales at Apple’s iTunes Music Store, the largest music retailer.
According to the report, Apple is now contemplating these options because U.S. digital album sales have started to drop. Album sales are down 13% for the week ended March 9 and track sales are down 11%.
