Apple to Cut iPhone 6s Production by 30% in Q1 2016?

Apple is reportedly planning to cut production of its iPhone 6s models by around 30% in the January to March quarter compared to original production plans for the quarter, reports Nikkei. The U.S. company had initially told parts makers to keep production of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus for the quarter at the same level as with their predecessors — the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus — a year earlier. But inventories of the two models launched last September have piled up at retailers in markets ranging from China and Japan to Europe and the U.S. amid lackluster sales. Customers saw little improvement in performance over the previous generation, while dollar appreciation led to sharp price hikes in emerging markets. The report says that production is expected to return to normal levels in the April to June quarter after the inventory adjustment is complete. EFF Says T-Mobile’s ‘Binge On’ Service Is Throttling All Video Content

T-Mobile’s Binge On service, announced back in November, enabled customers to stream video from certain websites (Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Sling, ESPN, etc) at an “optimized” quality (equivalent to 480p) without it counting towards their monthly data cap. T-Mobile automatically enabled the Binge On feature for customers, but users soon realized that T-Mobile was degrading the quality of all video content, even if the content provider was not a Binge On partner. YouTube, which is not a Binge On partner, claimed that T-Mobile was degrading, or throttling, their video quality. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) decided to investigate and found that with Binge On, T-Mobile throttles all video HTML5 streaming to around 1.5Mbps — even if the video provider is not enrolled in Binge On. That means for the customer, any video they stream will have its quality degraded unless they turn the feature off online.
