Apple Music Reaches 10 Million Subscribers in Just 6 Months

Apple Music has surpassed 10 million subscribers just six months after its debut, reports the Financial Times. That’s a number that took Spotify six years to reach.“It’s good news that Apple is making streaming work but it is also going to accelerate the decline of downloads,” said Mark Mulligan, a music industry analyst with Midia Research. At its current growth rate, Apple has “the potential to be the leading music subscription service sometime in 2017.”In the U.S., download sales are declining quickly. Album download sales dropped 9% in 2014 and individual track download sales dropped 12%. However, demand for streaming increased 50% during that period with 164 billion songs streamed.
