Apple Wants Local TV to be Part of Its Web TV Service Possibly Delaying Its Launch

Apple wants local TV stations to be part of its rumored live TV service which could delay its launch, reports Re/code.Industry executives familiar with Apple’s plans say the company wants to provide customers in cities around the U.S. with programming from their local broadcast stations. That would distinguish Apple’s planned offering from those already available from Sony and Dish’s Sling, which to date have only offered local programming in a handful of cities, or none at all. It’s said that Apple ambitions have complicated negotiations with broadcast TV networks, as many don’t own their local stations. Pebble Struggles to Find Funding Following Apple Watch Launch

Smartwatch maker Pebble is reportedly in some financial trouble, according to sources close to the company. TechCrunch reports that Pebble is having difficulties maintaining its growth and has turned to investors for a $5 million loan and a $5 million line of credit. Unfortunately for Pebble, it seems that most Venture Capitalists are turning down the company’s request for funds.Pebble just launched a successful Kickstarter campaign back in February and raised over $20 million with over 75,000 backers for the new Pebble Time smartwatch. The company received about $18 million after Kickstarter fees, but despite its success, it still needs additional funding to maintain growth and “stay afloat.”The source also noted that many employees were not satisfied with the direction the company was headed, especially with competition intensifying as Apple, Google, and more enter the smartwatch category. On the other hand some employees were cautiously optimistic that things would turn around and the company would find funding. Kanye West’s Upcoming Album Rumored to Be Connected With Apple Music Launch

Apple’s upcoming streaming service will reportedly be revealed at WWDC in June and until then we’re sure there will be lots of rumors regarding the next chapter for music in Apple. Today, Hits Daily Double is reporting that rival service Tidal, owned by artists including Jay Z and other high-profile music stars, has ramped up pressure on Apple to secure exclusives. Tidal launched months ago with the idea of placing the power in the artists. The service claims to offer the highest percentage of royalties than any other music service. Tidal’s use of exclusives from its star artists has ramped up the pressure on Apple Music, which is also counting on exclusives—and both are going directly to artists and then circling back to their labels. These efforts run counterproductive to the needs of the labels, which want to distribute their content wide, while disrupting the relationships between the labels and their acts who agree to do the exclusives. This is a major issue as Apple Music prepares to go live.
