Mysterious Apple Vans Gathering Data for Maps, Images for 3D Street View Feature?

The mysterious Apple vans that have been spotted around the country are gathering data for an in-house Maps database, taking storefront photos, and collecting images for an upcoming 3D Street View feature, reports 9to5Mac. Sources say the vans are not test vehicles for an upcoming self-driving Apple car.To launch Maps, Apple aggregated geography data from several third-party sources, including TomTom. The company is said to be working on replacing data from those sources with its own base map data. Initially Apple had planned to shift to its own in-house map database in 2017 but that may be running behind schedule and instead could happen in 2018.Apple’s vans are also collecting street view images; however, the company wants to display the images in a more intuitive manner.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Consumer Reports: Apple’s Tech Support is ‘By Far the Most Effective’

Consumer Reports has released its findings on which computer brand has the best technical support, reporting that ‘if you want an army of geeks you can count on to tame an unruly computer, you’d better buy a Macintosh’.The company found that ‘Apple tech support is by far the most effective of any computer brand’s’. In fact, after surveying 3,200 computer owners, they determined that technical support for Windows PC was able to solve customer problems just 50% of the time. Compare that to Apple users who were likely to have their problem fixed 80% of the time. It’s no surprise that Apple had the highest score for overall user satisfaction. In fact, the company has been top-rated every year since we first asked consumers about tech support back in 2007—even though Apple provides just 90 days of free phone and online tech support, compared with one year for most Windows PC companies.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here
