Switching From Chrome to Safari Could Get You an Extra Hour of MacBook Battery Life [Chart]

Switching from using Chrome as your browser to Safari could get you an extra one hour of battery life or more, according to a study by BatteryBox.After noticing that one of their employees was consistently getting more battery life out of his MacBook after switching to Safari, the company decided to modify a testing system used to collect data on BatteryOS to instead monitor power consumption on a MacBook. We measured the power consumption of watching videos on YouTube, browsing Reddit, streaming on Netflix vs Putlocker, creeping on Twitter and FaceBook, composing emails on services like Gmail and Hotmail, and searching for stuff on Google, Bing (yup, surprisingly, it’s still used), and DuckDuckGo. We used a factory-restored MacBook Pro Retina 13” to test each website on one internet browser at a time. No programs other than the browser were open.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple to Announce Next Generation Apple TV in September Without Web TV Service?

Apple is set to announce its next generation Apple TV in September alongside the next generation iPhone, according to John Paczkowski for BuzzFeed. The device itself is pretty much as we described it to you in March, sources say, but “more polished” after some additional tweaks. Expect a refreshed and slimmer chassis and new innards; Apple’s A8 system on chip; a new remote that sources say has been “drastically improved” by a touch-pad input; an increase in on-board storage; and an improved operating system that will support Siri voice control. Crucially, the new Apple TV will debut alongside a long-awaited App Store and the software development kit developers need to populate it.Apple is reportedly hoping to spark a huge upgrade cycle for the holidays and set the stage for a subscription web TV service that the company has been working on for years. Sources tell Paczkowski that the TV service will not launch alongside the new hardware. “Late this year — maybe, but more likely next year,” said a source.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here
