Viber Gets End-to-End Encryption, Hidden Chats, Contact Authentication, More

Viber has released a new privacy-enhanced version of its messaging app that brings end-to-end encryption, hidden chats, contact authentication, and more.”Today we’re excited to announce that our users will be able to securely communicate across all of their devices through end-to-end encryption. We have been working on this for a long time and are proud that our users can confidently use Viber without fear of their messages being intercepted – whether it is in a one-to-one or group message, on a call, on desktop, mobile or tablet.”Viber will be rolling this out globally over the next two weeks, and you’ll see a grey padlock to confirm you are secured. Additionally, each user has an individual cryptography key associated with his or her device, allowing you to benefit from an added layer of security. You can manually authenticate contacts to select they are “trusted”. This will change the lock color to green, and if you ever see a red lock it means there is a problem with the authentication key. The breach may simply mean that a user has changed his or her primary phone; however, it can also indicate a man-in-the-middle-attack. To solve a possible breach state, the participant needs to be re-trusted. Apple is Hearing Pitches for Original TV Shows, Stealthily Meets With Talent at Sundance [Report]

Apple has been hearing pitches for original TV shows and has stealthily met with talent at the Sundance Film festival, according to Fast Company.Apple attended Sundance nearly unnoticed. The company set up in the Imperial Hotel and held invitation only events behind the now unmarked door at 221 Main.On one evening, a group of young filmmakers were treated to cocktails and a farm-to-table dinner put on by the chefs from Eveleigh, one of Los Angeles’s hottest restaurants. The space was as sleek and understated as an iPhone 6S; one attendee described the decor to me as “very beige.” Unlike most Sundance brand-sponsored events, there were no press releases. There were no party pictures. There wasn’t any swag. The iTunes Lounge, as it was known to invitees, was as real to most festivalgoers as Lizzy.
