Apple Ramps Up Hiring of Artificial Intelligence Experts

Apple is ramping up its hiring of artificial intelligence experts and recruiting from PhD programs, reports Reuters. The company has posted dozens of job listings and greatly increasing the size of its AI staff in an effort to challenge Google on giving users what they want before they ask.As part of its push, the company is currently trying to hire at least 86 more employees with expertise in the branch of artificial intelligence known as machine learning, according to a recent analysis of Apple job postings. The company has also stepped up its courtship of machine-learning PhD’s, joining Google, Amazon, Facebook and others in a fierce contest, leading academics say.AI will likely be more of a challenge for Apple due to its strict stance on privacy. Machine learning relies on a vast amount of data to make predictions about what users might want. While Siri has Apple’s most liberal privacy policy, holding on to data for up to six months, other services, such as Apple Maps, retain information for as little as 15 minutes. This makes it difficult Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple to Make Gaming a Primary Selling Point of the New Apple TV

Apple will make gaming a primary selling point of the new Apple TV, reports the New York Times. It’s tough to know how compelling the games on Apple TV will be until the company reveals the system this week. Yet many of the components necessary for a satisfying game experience will come with the device, the people say — including more power for better graphics, a new remote that could double as a controller and, perhaps most important, an app store to buy and download games.“I think Apple’s going to create a big new category in gaming, one that others have tried and failed to create before,” said Jan Dawson, chief analyst at the technology research firm Jackdaw Research. “What the Apple TV has the potential to do is to bring casual gaming to the living room and make it a much more social activity.”Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple iPhone 7 to be as Thin as the iPod Touch?

Apple is planning to make next year’s iPhone 7 even thinner, reports KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo. In an investor note obtained by AppleInsider, Kuo predicts the 2016 iPhone will be between 6.0 and 6.5 millimeters thick. If accurate, that would put the “iPhone 7” in line with Apple’s current iPod touch and iPad Air 2, both of which are just 6.1 millimeters thick. In contrast, the current iPhone 6 is 6.9 millimeters thick, and new 7000 series aluminum on the “iPhone 6s” are expected to make that device just over 7 millimeters thick.Kuo says he believes Apple does want to switch to glass-to-glass, especially if the company goes to a higher resolution; however, the company’s drive for thinner devices might delay that a few years.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Steve Jobs Movie Reviewed as ‘Brilliant, Infuriating and Richly Unconventional’

Variety has published one of the first reviews of Steve Jobs, the upcoming film written by Aaron Sorkin, starring Michael Fassbender.Chief Film Critic Justin Chang says, “An enthralling performance by Michael Fassbender fuels this brilliant, infuriating and richly unconventional take on the life of an American visionary.”Blowing away traditional storytelling conventions with the same withering contempt that seems to motivate its characters’ every interaction, “Steve Jobs” is a bravura backstage farce, a wildly creative fantasia in three acts in which every scene plays out as a real-time volley of insults and ideas — insisting, with sometimes gratingly repetitive sound and fury, that Jobs’ gift for innovation was perhaps inextricable from his capacity for cruelty. Straining like mad to be the “Citizen Kane” (or at least the “Birdman”) of larger-than-life techno-prophet biopics, this is a film of brash, swaggering artifice and monumental ego, a terrific actors’ showcase and an incorrigibly entertaining ride that looks set to be one of the fall’s early must-see attractions.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

iPhone 6s to Feature Enhanced ‘3D Touch’ Version of Force Touch

Apple will equip the upcoming iPhone 6s with next generation Force Touch capabilities, reports 9to5Mac. The new smartphone screen will likely be called a ‘3D Touch Display’ and will detect three levels of touch. While the MacBook trackpads and Apple Watch sense two levels of pressure, the differentiation between a tap and a press, the new iPhones will actually sense three levels of pressure: a tap, a press, and a deeper press, according to sources. The 3D Touch name is therefore derived from the new Force Touch sensor’s ability to sense three dimensions of pressure, rather than two.The new display will allow for even more functionality and shortcuts than previously expected. It could even allow for new interactions in gaming.
