Twitter is developing a Periscope app for the new Apple TV, reports TechCrunch. The app will allow users to watch livestreams broadcasted from the Periscope app on their televisions.Though we can’t confirm the exact functionality of the app, it’s likely to be focused on watching streams. Periscope made videos viewable on the web in June without the ability to broadcast, and the Apple TV app could work similarly. Periscope was acquired by Twitter in January and launched the mobile, ephemeral live-streaming app in April. Samsung is preparing to cut 10% of workers (nearly 10,000 employees) at its headquarters, as its smartphone business stumbles due to strong competition from the iPhone and Chinese vendors, reports Bloomberg.Samsung is targeting workers in the human resources, public relations and finance departments, Korea Economic Daily reported Tuesday, citing people it didn’t identify. The Suwon, South Korea-based company also plans to cut some expenses next year, the report added. Samsung declined to comment in an e-mail.The moves comes after five months of declines in Galaxy smartphone sales and drop of $40 billion in Samsung’s market value. Verizon has announced that it will begin field testing its 5G network within the next 12 months, reports CNET. Roger Gurnani, chief information and technology architect for Verizon, says he expects “some level of commercial deployment” to begin by 2017. That’s much earlier than the 2020 time frame that was pegged for initial 5G adoption.The field tests would make Verizon the world’s first carrier to make a serious move towards 5G. It could also bring a tech revolution due to it’s massive improvements in speed.”The future is going to bring more stuff that I can’t really describe,” Gurnani said. “We can’t possibly envision the full range of disruptive products and services. Pangu has posted some details on kernel vulnerabilities discovered in iOS 8.4.1’s AppleHDQGasGaugeControl that likely were used to demonstrate a jailbreak of the firmware.When auditing iOS kernel executable, we found that the code quality of com.apple.driver.AppleHDQGasGaugeControl is very bad. In this blog, we will disclose 3 vulnerabilities in this kernel extension on the latest public iOS (version 8.4.1). Steve Wozniak has some high praise for the just premiered Steve Jobs film starring Michael Fassbender, reports Deadline. Early reviews of the film have called it ‘Brilliant, Infuriating and Richly Unconventional’.When I caught up with him Wozniak told me that, unlike the Jobs biopic with Ashton Kutcher, this one is totally authentic. “I saw a rough cut and I felt like I was actually watching Steve Jobs and the others (including Rogen’s dead-on portrayal of Wozniak), not actors playing them, I give full credit to Danny Boyle and Aaron Sorkin for getting it so right,” he enthusiastically told me. Of all the actors in the film he thinks Winslet might be the most likely to garner awards attention. I would add Fassbender to that list for sure. It’s a dazzling display of acting and he is almost never off the screen.The movie is set to hit theaters on October 9th.
