Library of Congress Rules Jailbreaking Your Smartphone, Tablet and Smart TV is Legal

The Librarian of Congress, upon the recommendation of the Register of Copyrights, has adopted exemptions to the DMCA’s statutory prohibition against circumvention of technological measures that control access to copyrighted worksThese exemptions make it legal to jailbreak your smartphone, tablet, Smart TV, or all-purpose mobile device and to unlock your cellphone, tablet, wearable, or portable mobile device. As with all prior rulemakings, potential exemptions were proposed by members of the public, and were evaluated as part of a public process. Following the receipt of petitions for proposed exemptions, the Copyright Office received extensive public input, including nearly 40,000 written comments and testimony from sixty-three witnesses over seven days of public hearings. Based on this record, the Register recommended that the Librarian adopt exemptions covering twenty-two types of uses. The Librarian adopted the Register’s Recommendation in full.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple Places Limited Orders for New iPad Pro?

Apple has reportedly placed only limited orders for the new iPad Pro, ahead of its release next month, reports DigiTimes. Possibily indicating a conservative attitude to sales of the product.Currently, Apple only placed orders for fewer than 2.5 million units for the iPad Pro before the end of 2015 and the volume for the first quarter of 2016 is expected to be even lower if demand for the device during the year-end holidays is weaker than expected. As most enterprises are looking to save costs, the iPad Pro is unlikely to become the top choice for mobile device purchasing, the sources noted. The iPad Pro will cost $799 to $1079 USD and the optional Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard cost $99 USD and $169 USD, respectively.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple is Testing New Off-Site iPhone Repair Program

Apple is testing a new iPhone repair program that would have Apple Stores send devices off-site for repairs, reports 9to5Mac.Rather than completing all repairs in-store, Apple Genius Bars will send away a device for repair if it is unable to connect to iTunes, if it will not power on, or if it does not boot past the Apple logo. The program is being piloted in the United Sates, Europe, and Japan for the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus.Apple has told employees that fixing these issues in the store takes significant amounts of time that could be instead allocated to serve other problems. If a customer agrees to have the iPhone 6, 6s, 6 Plus or 6s Plus sent off-site for diagnostics and repair, he or she will be loaned a 16GB iPhone 6 to use in the interim. This is the first time that Apple is offering loaner iPhone 6 units to customers and repairing the devices for general issues off-site. Apple expects the off-site repair process to take three to five business days.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here
