Apple Patents Touch ID Activation of Panic Mode for iPhone

Apple has filed a patent for putting your iPhone into ‘panic mode’ using Touch ID fingerprint recognition.Currently, the iPhone’s fingerprint sensor is used to authenticate a user for the purpose of allowing secure access to the contents of a device. However, Apple suggests that pressing a designated finger to the sensor could activate a panic mode of operation that would prevent access to the device. In the panic mode, personal data stored on the mobile device is not accessible or viewable to the user. In an example, panic mode can be pre-configured by the mobile device owner to implement a variety of different security functions ranging from securing personal data to resetting the device to locking out all functions until a password or different designated finger is scanned. Panic mode in particular is designed to protect both user data and the mobile device from theft. In other implementations, the user may register particular fingerprints to be associated with different modes of operation and activate the different modes based on the particular fingerprints. Apple Considers Earlier Launch of the iPhone 7 Next Year?

Apple is considering an earlier than usual launch of the iPhone 7 next year, reports AppleInsider. Since the iPhone 5, Apple has launched its new iPhones in late September. For example, the iPhone 6s arrived on September 25th and the iPhone 6 arrived on September 19th. However, sources say the iPhone 7 could reach customers earlier. But that pattern could end next year with an earlier launch, a reliable source told AppleInsider on Wednesday. The same person has, in the past, provided accurate information about the Apple’s future product plans. Exactly how early it might launch, however, remains unknown. Up until the iPhone 4s in 2011, the first four generations of iPhone upgrades launched in the summer, in the months of June and July. The lone outlier from those launch windows was the iPhone 4s, which became available in October.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple Watch Shipments Pegged at 7 Million [Canalys]

Canalys is out with a new report pegging Apple Watch shipments at about seven million so far. Apple continues to dominate the smart watch market, holding onto its sizable lead through the second quarter of Apple Watch shipments. The company has now shipped nearly 7 million smart watches since launch, a figure in excess of all other vendors’ combined shipments over the previous five quarters. In Q3 Apple was the only smart watch vendor to ship more than 300,000 units. The quarter also saw the release of the Pebble Time Steel, which helped the company ship more than 200,000 total smart watches, while Samsung’s Gear shipments declined ahead of the Q4 release of the Gear S2.”After experiencing significant supply chain constraints early on, Apple managed to overcome its production struggles with the Apple Watch and is building momentum going into Q4,” said Analyst Daniel Matte. “Shipments are steadily increasing as it has greatly expanded the Watch’s channel footprint internationally.”Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple May Be Planning a New 4.15 Million Sq Ft Campus in North San Jose

Apple is working on a development agreement with the City of San Jose that would let the company build a new campus in north San Jose up to 4.15 million square feet in size, reports the Silicon Valley Business Journal. The draft agreement, which is not yet completed, will come before the city’s Planning Commission later this month, officials said. It would lock in development rights — and expectations for both sides — for the next 15 years in an area that sprawls across 86 acres north of Highway 101 across from the Mineta San Jose International Airport. The area Apple has been focused on now sprawls over roughly 86 acres in north San Jose. The sites would be subject to a development agreement between Apple and the city, spelling out how the land could sprout buildings. But the deal does not signify an actual project.Apple has yet to finish building its new Apple Campus 2 headquarters in Cupertino. The company is also said to have signed a massive deal for Landbank Investments’ planned Central & Wolfe campus, a curvaceous, 777,000-square-foot project at Central Expressway and Wolfe Road in Sunnyvale.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here
