Behold the MacBook Selfie Stick

If you think selfie sticks are ridiculous, wait until you see the MacBook Selfie Stick. Created by artists Moises (Art404), John Yuyi, and Tom Galle, the MacBook Selfie Stick takes the popular smartphone accessory to another level. The enormous selfie stick is pictured in use around New York City, although it doesn’t appear to actually work. There’s also a site dedicated to it at macbookselfiestick.com.While there is no commentary on the project, it’s likely intended to make us look at what the popularity of selfie sticks says about our society.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Foxconn Takeover of Sharp in Jeopardy Over $2.7 Billion in Undisclosed Liabilities

Foxconn has extended a deadline for takeover talks with Sharp by 1-2 weeks after being informed of a massive $2.7 billion in undisclosed liabilities, reports Reuters. Earlier this week Sharp accepted a takeover offer of $5.8 billion from Foxconn.Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou reportedly received a list of liabilities in an email from Sharp on Wednesday during a meeting at the company’s headquarters in Taipei. Dozens of people were in the room and they reportedly ‘went berserk’.“If you face this amount of liabilities at the very last stage of the negotiations, people would get upset—that’s normal,” said Nobumichi Hattori, a former mergers-and-acquisitions banker who is now a visiting professor at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Finance, Accounting and Law. “It depends on what those contingent liabilities are, but they could lead to changes in the deal conditions or a complete pullout by Foxconn.”Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

U.S. Appeals Court Overturns Apple’s $120 Million Jury Verdict Against Samsung

A U.S. appeals court has overturned a $120 million jury verdict against Samsung, giving the company a significant win in its long battle with Apple, reports Reuters. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., said Samsung Electronics Co Ltd did not infringe Apple’s “quick links” patent, and that two other patents covering the iPhone’s slide-to-unlock and auto-correct features were invalid. The court also said Apple was liable for infringing one of Samsung’s patents. The ruling was issued by a unanimous three-judge panel. Both Apple and Samsung declined to comment on the decision. Apple’s New 4-inch Phone to Be Called the ‘iPhone SE’?

Apple may be planning to drop the ‘5’ and name its new 4-inch phone the ‘iPhone SE’, reports 9to5Mac.In January, we reported that Apple is preparing a new 4-inch iPhone that is essentially 2013’s iPhone 5s with upgraded internals. At the time, we heard that Apple would call the device the “iPhone 5se” based on it being both an enhanced and “special edition” version of the iPhone 5s. Now, we are hearing that Apple appears to be going all in on the special edition factor: sources say that Apple has decided to drop the “5” from the device’s name and simply call it the “iPhone SE.” This will mark the first iPhone upgrade without a number in its name and would logically remove it from a yearly update cycle. As previously reported, the new 4-inch iPhone is believed to look very similar to the iPhone 5s but with slightly curved edges. It’s expected to feature a 4-inch display with a faster A9 processor, an M9 chip with support always-on Siri, curved glass, an 8MP camera, 1GB to 1.2GB of RAM, a 1624mAh battery, 16GB and 64GB storage options, NFC, Live Photos, and more. You can check out some purported renders here.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Google, Facebook, and Microsoft to File Joint Motion Supporting Apple

Apple earlier today filed a motion to vacate the order from a judge that would force the company to create a modified version of its iPhone software. Now, several of the top tech companies in Silicon Valley plan on filing a joint motion to support Apple in its continued fight with law enforcement over unlocking an alleged terrorist’s iPhone. According to the Wall Street Journal, the top three tech companies, including Google, Facebook, and Microsoft plan to file a joint motion that supports Apple’s efforts to protect the privacy of its customers. Sources say at least one other tech company plans to be included in the joint brief as well.In addition, BuzzFeed News is reporting that Amazon, Twitter, and Box are also planning to file briefs as well, but it is unclear if it will join the combined filing or file separately. The “friend of the court” briefs (amicus curiae) involve those who are not directly involved in a lawsuit, but have a strong interest in the matter and offers information that could influence the case.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here

Apple Files Motion Opposing Court Order That Would Force It to Build Backdoor Into iPhone

Apple has filed a motion asking a judge to vacate an order that would compel the company to build a backdoor into the iPhone. As expected, Apple notes that this case is bigger than just one device and would set a dangerous precedent if upheld. Apple would be forced to write what it calls “GovtOS,” a modified version of iOS that removes the passcode lock protections that prevent users from trying too many different passcode combinations. This is not a case about one isolated iPhone. Rather, this case is about the Department of Justice and the FBI seeking through the courts a dangerous power that Congress and the American people have withheld: the ability to force companies like Apple to undermine the basic security and privacy interests of hundreds of millions of individuals around the globe. The government demands that Apple create a back door to defeat the encryption on the iPhone, making its users’ most confidential and personal information vulnerable to hackers, identity thieves, hostile foreign agents, and unwarranted government surveillance. The All Writs Act, first enacted in 1789 and on which the government bases its entire case, “does not give the district court a roving commission” to conscript and commandeer Apple in this manner. Plum Creek Lumber Co. v. Hutton, 608 F.2d 1283, 1289 (9th Cir. 1979). In fact, no court has ever authorized what the government now seeks, no law supports such unlimited and sweeping use of the judicial process, and the Constitution forbids it.Share Article:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Email,   Reddit,   Digg,   Delicious,   StumbleUponFollow iClarified:Facebook,   Twitter,   LinkedIn,   Google Plus,   Newsletter,   App Store,   YouTubeAdvertise Here
