Apple has hired a new contractor for its new headquarters in Cupertino, stirring up rumors regarding Apple Campus 2’s completion date. According to Silicon Valley Business Journal, Rudolph & Sletten Inc. will complete the buildout of the Campus 2’s interior structure. Until now, DPR Construction Company was expected to finish the project.It’s unclear why Rudolph & Sletten is being brought in and exactly what DPR/Skanska’s involvement will be going forward. Two sources said the DPR-Skanska joint venture would still complete the core and shell — or the basic structure — of the circular building. It’s also possible that DPR and Skanska never intended to do more than the core and shell.It remains unknown if the hire of a new contractor signals a delay in the construction process, or Apple simply needing additional construction horsepower. In fact, Apple already has several different teams of general contractors working on different parts of the project.
